How To Unlock The HTC Hero: An Idiot’s Guide
The HTC Hero is a smartphone manufactured by HTC and sold by Sprint and other cell phone service carriers. It runs on the Android operating system. Geared toward social media users, it contains features that let you collect all the phone messages, text messages, status updates, and emails from a person in a single place. It is also available in multiple formats, some of which only work with CDMA networks (such as Sprint) and some of which work with GSM networks.
If your phone only runs on CDMA networks, you can’t unlock it to access GSM networks. If, however, you have one of the GSM-capable phones, all you need is the unlock code for your specific phone and an international SIM card, and you can use any GSM network in the world.
If you are a good customer of your current network service provider, unlocking your phone for free should be trivial. All you have to do is explain to them that you want to be able to make calls internationally, outside of their service area, while you’re travelling, and need the ability to use an international SIM card. Some carriers will even perform the unlock service for you while others will simply provide the phone unlock code that you need.
There are other ways to get the unlock code for your phone if your carrier will not help with unlocking your phone for free. There are a number of different online company that will perform lookups of your phone’s IMEI number to get your specific phone unlock code. If you use an online unlock service, you will need to tell them your phone’s make, model, and IMEI number, as well as your current cell phone provider. In return, and for a small amount of money, they will send you an email containing the code you need and instructions for using it.
As well as the code, you will need a new SIM card. You can buy this card from any cell phone kiosk or store, as well as getting one online. The important thing is that the SIM card must not be associated with your current cell phone provider. You can buy one to unlock your phone then get a new one for a local network in your destination, or you can buy an international network SIM card now.
1. Power off your phone.
2. Take out your existing SIM card, and put in the new SIM card.
3. Power on your phone.
4. The phone will ask for the network code.
5. Simply enter the code you were given and click OK.
Your HTC Hero will now be unlocked. You can then use it with any GSM network in the world.
